Properly installed, well maintained hardwood floors can last a lifetime.  At BC Wood Flooring, we place great importance on educating our clients as all the different types of hardwood species have their own unique characteristics. Wood is a natural material that reacts to changes in its environment. Cleaning Tips

  • We recommend dusting your hardwood floors with a microfiber mop daily

  • Vacuum with a soft-bristled brush weekly

Things to Avoid

  • Do not use water and vinegar

  • Do not use steam cleaners, the combination of heat and moisture can cause cracking, peeling over time

  • Do not use vinyl or tile cleaning products

  • Never drag heavy objects on hardwood floor

  • Avoid using materials containing adhesives, PVC, chemicals. Adhesive coating can stick to the floor and damage the finish

  • Potted plants should not be placed directly on hardwood floor, use saucers or water tight containers

Tips for Protecting your Floors

  • Use rugs for high traffic areas

  • Check the back of the rug to see what material it is made of. Consider using rug pads for safety and protection.

  • Direct sunlight can change the color of your floor over time

  • Leaving furniture and items in the same place for too long can cause discoloration and uneven aging. Consider rearranging your furniture from time to time.

  • Minor scratches can be repaired with a wood stain touch-up pen
